Mary Jane Traut Larson, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully in Murrieta, California, on April 14, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on March 30, 1936, in Rockville, Minnesota, Mary Jane's life was a testament to her resilience, creativity, and unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Raised in the heart of Minnesota, Mary Jane was the pride of Cathedral High School's graduating class. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue Nurses Training in Little Falls, where she honed her skills that would later define her role as a caregiver, not just within her family but to all those she encountered.
Mary Jane's heart was first captured by Melvin Traut, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. Their love blossomed into a family of seven daughters: Karen, Ruth, Doris, Mardell, June, Carolyn, and Janie, who became the center of her world. After Melvin's passing, she found companionship and love again with Clifford Larson for 12 years and later with Robert MacDonald for another 12 years, both of whom predeceased her. Mary Jane's legacy continues through her adoring family, including 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, as well as her brothers Jerry, Melvin, and Vernon Lutgen.
In 1979, Mary Jane and her family relocated to California, a move that marked the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Retirement did not slow her down; it only amplified her involvement in her community and her dedication to her interests and volunteer work.
A woman of many talents, Mary Jane found joy in sewing, a skill that brought beauty to the world around her. Her competitive spirit shone through in the bowling alley, and her love for cooking gathered friends and family around countless tables over the years. Creativity was her companion, often seen in the beautiful outdoor scenes she brought to life in her adult coloring books and the virtual worlds she navigated on her iPad.
Mary Jane's adventurous spirit was evident in her love for the outdoors, where she could often be found fishing or hunting. Her journeys took her beyond the familiar landscapes, making her a world traveler with stories to share and memories to cherish.
Deeply religious, Mary Jane was a pillar of St. Catherine's Church in Temecula. Her devotion was apparent in her service as a Eucharistic Minister, and her faith illuminated the path for many who sought her guidance.
Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as a mentor to numerous women, a testament to her loving and friendly nature. Mary Jane's commitment to life was reflected in her longstanding membership and volunteer work at Birth Choice in Temecula.
Mary Jane was a leader in every sense of the word, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her love for children was boundless, and her ability to inspire and guide made her a cherished figure in her community.
To describe Mary Jane as loving, friendly, and faith-filled only scratches the surface of the remarkable woman she was. Her impact on the lives she touched will be felt for generations to come. Though she has left this earthly realm, the warmth of her smile, the gentleness of her touch, and the wisdom of her words will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mary Jane's journey through life was marked by an abundance of love, a wealth of friendships, and an unwavering faith that guided her every step. She lived a life that was full, vibrant, and deeply meaningful. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the legacy of kindness and strength she leaves behind. Mary Jane will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
