Mary Jane Mills Truscott, 90, passed away on October 23, 2025 in Kerrville and was born June 25, 1935, in Waelder, Texas. Her Father, Sam Mills Sr., and her mother, Nancy Jane Burton Mills had eight children, and Mary Jane was number six of the eight children.
Mary finished high school at an early age (16) and moved to San Antonio to stay with her sister Annie Bell Walker where she attended nursing school and received her LVN.
She met and married Will Arthur Wheat Jr, in Kerrville Texas. On May 11, 1953, Will and Mary had their first son, Will Arthur Wheat III. Not long after the birth of Will Arthur, Will and Mary were expecting their second son, Marvin Earl Wheat. Marvin Earl died shortly after his birth by what is known as sudden infant death syndrome.
After Mary Jane's and Will Wheat's marriage ended, she met and married Jimmie Lee Truscott Sr., and on February 12, 1960, she gave birth to Jimmie Lee Truscott Jr.
Two years after their marriage Opheila Jean Truscott, Jimmie's daughter from a previous marriage came to live with Jimmie and Mary Jane. Jimmie Truscott Sr., went to Los Angeles, California to find work, so he could properly care for his family. After finding work and a place to live, he sent for his family and moved them to Los Angeles.
On June 29, 1972 Mary Jane gave birth to Cynthia Marie Truscott. Cyndy was born with two holes in her heart and was not expected to live long. Well, Mary Jane and Cyndy had other plans.
In the late 90's Mary Jane met and married George Jones. They remained married until his death in 2024.
Mary Jane was always active in the Church. While married to Jimmie Truscott Sr. she joined Mount Olive Baptist Church, was very involved in the Church as Deacon Jimmie Truscott's wife.
Mary Jane received her Minster's License and became well known as Evangelist Mary. She loved to expound on the word of God. She would be invited to speak at women's conferences, Church conferences, and Sunday Morning services. She would challenge her oldest son, Will Arthur, to give explanation on certain scriptures testing his Bible knowledge. They would discuss their view of certain scriptures for hours upon hours trying to sharpen knowledge and skill in delivering the word of God.
One of her favorite scriptures was 2 Timothy 2:15, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Mary saw to it that all her children knew God and knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She would see to it that they were dressed and ready for Sunday School every Sunday. Her standard was if you were going to live in her house you were going to serve God. That meant you were going to be involved in church and not just sit in the church pews.
Mary's career as a private duty nurse was also successful. She gained the reputation of being 'the angel of life'. She would always be assigned to the terminal patients, and miraculously those patients would recover, or their lives would be extended beyond their doctor's prognosis.
Shortly after marrying George Jones, Mary became stepmother to George's children, America, Merry Christmas, Prince, and Darla Jones. Mary and George joined Los Angeles Christian Center, where her son Will Arthur Wheat III was senior Pastor. Instantly, she became Mother Mary. The congregation would never be the same. Mother Mary's upfront approach left nothing to the imagination, she always insisted that those who helped oversee the ministry do so with excellence.
After returning to Kerrville, Evangelist Mary Jones Truscott reunited herself with Mount Olive Baptist Church, whose Pastor is Pastor Noah Diggs. She viewed Pastor Diggs as her son in ministry. She loved him and Sister Diggs very much and often commented on how patient Pastor Diggs was when it came to working with her.
