Mary Uerz Obituary

Uerz, Mary A. (Gillissie)
LATHAM - Mary A. (Gillissie) Uerz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered into eternal life on January 29, 2026.
Born on April 12, 1934, in Brockton, Mass., Mary was the daughter of Harold and Catherine (Keohane) Gillissie and was raised in Utica, N.Y. She married her husband, Walter Uerz, in 1954, and accompanied him to Augusta, Ga., while he served in the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean Conflict. After Walt's military service, Mary cared for their growing family in Utica, Albany, and then Loudonville, as Walt held various management positions with the NY Telephone Company.
Mary was a parishioner at St. Pius X Church, in Loudonville, for over 50 years and served with various ministries during that time, including the school library committee, the Altar Rosary Society, and the PEP seniors group. Although Mary was employed by Kelly Services and New York State at times, her proudest accomplishments were as a homemaker and mother; raising their six children, managing their household and creating family memories.
For over 60 years, Mary was the quintessential family hostess for holidays at home and summer celebrations at their lake house in Chestertown. After Walt's retirement, they enjoyed many travels, exploring numerous European countries, enjoying winters in Florida, and cherishing vacations with their children and grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 70 years, Walter; her parents; and two sisters. She is survived by her six children, Robert (Lori) of South Kingstown, R.I., Jeffrey (Maureen) of Mechanicsville, Va., David (Kathleen) of Ontario, N.Y., Laurie (Michael Baschwitz) of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., Suzanne (John Bell) of Bloomfield, N.Y., and Julie (Timothy Marion) of Wynantskill, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mary is also survived by her sister, Joan Marquard of Loudonville.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family and offer condolences on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., in the chapel of St. Pius X Catholic Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville. Funeral Mass will follow the visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m., in the main church of St. Pius X. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's memory may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation.
Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the care of The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Latham. For further information or to express a sentiment of condolence, please visit www.dufresneandcavanaugh.com

So sorry to read of your Mom´s passing. We were neighbors on Leslie Court many years ago. We lost touch after my family moved to Guilderland and I was working full time. Your Mom was a lovely woman with a great sense of humor. I do remember an instance she shared when she colored her hair, only to have it turn black. She washed it so many times trying to get that color out, and the next door neighbor was puzzled when she called and your Mom kept saying she was washing her hair.
