Mary Bolen Vaux

Mary Bolen Vaux died on March 26, 2025, surrounded by lots of love from her husband and children.
Mary was born in Greenville, SC on July 25, 1949, to George Fox and Audrey Griffin Bolen. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and Limestone College. In 1977, Mary moved to Bluffton where she worked in Public Relations at Moss Creek and met her husband, Roberts.
She had a passion for giving and helping others which led her to be an active volunteer in the Beaufort County Schools, Church of the Cross, the Heritage Golf Tournament, and May River Montessori. In 1987, Mary co-founded May River Montessori to provide a Christian based community Montessori pre-school. She was instrumental in the school's operations and growth to bring it to where it is today, almost 40 years later. Mary loved helping others, unselfishly giving her time to help and serve anyone in need.
Mary is survived by her husband of 45 years, Roberts Vaux, and their four children Mary Gwinn Hayes (John) of Spartanburg, SC, Emily Burden (Chris), Tabor Vaux (Erin) and Anna Pepper Hewett (Jason) all of Bluffton; a brother, George Bolen (Mary Lee) of Salem, SC; her grandchildren, Rollins Hayes, Audrey, Hayne, Wyatt and Faye Burden, Roberts and Ella Vaux, Addison, Pepper, Vivian and Mills Hewett; nieces Jennifer McNaughton (Sloan) and Elizabeth Cox (Keith) both of Charlotte, NC.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. downtown Historic Bluffton at the Church of the Cross, 110 Calhoun Street, Bluffton, SC.
Reception immediately following the service will be held at the Heyward House, 70 Boundary Street, Bluffton, SC.
