Mary Ellen Dragt Veurink, born December 1, 1932, in Grant Michigan, arrived in her heavenly home on April 18, 2024. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Daniel Bruce Veurink; her son, Mark; grandson, Benjamin; and her brother, Richard Dragt.
Mary loved learning. After raising 6 children, she went to college and received her teaching certificate from Trinity Christian College in 1981. She also educated herself in the areas of health and nutrition, politics and investing. Mary was a farmer deep down in her soul. She was rarely without a vegetable garden until well into her 80's.
Family was central to her life. She was interested in the pursuits of grandchildren and great grandchildren and was willing to share her wisdom with them. Mary made a real effort to bring her large family together for the holidays and encouraged participation at family reunions with the Dragt family.
Mary will be missed by her children, Wendy (Paul) Williams; Lois (Roger) Buikema; Cindi (Jerry) Allen; Timothy (Lori) Veurink; Kristen (Doug) Bakker; by her 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sister, Doris (Al) Nickels; brother, Donald (Roxanne) Dragt; in–laws Marie Dragt; Sally Veurink; Gloria (Stan) VanSingle; Beth (Arie) Veenje; and Paul (Winnie) Veurink. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
The family will have a private service. Mary was a long-time member of Crown Point Reformed Church. Gifts in honor of Mary can be given to the Church's new building fund.
