Mary Williams Obituary

Mary "Wanda" Williams, born on July 1, 1937, in Alco, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025. Wanda was a remarkable woman whose talents and passions enriched the lives of everyone who knew her. She dedicated herself to her career as a beautician and, alongside her sister, operated their own salon for ten fulfilling years, bringing beauty and joy to the ladies in their community.

As the matriarch of her family, Wanda was the cornerstone of many cherished family gatherings. Holidays will never feel the same without her warm presence, as she was known for bringing everyone together to create wonderful memories. Her culinary skills were legendary, with specialties including chicken and dumplings and dressing, making her kitchen a haven of delicious aromas. She even took joy in giving free family haircuts, showcasing her nurturing spirit and desire to care for those she loved.

Wanda was a devout Christian, governed by her faith and a genuine desire to help others. She had a servant's heart that never sought recognition for her efforts; instead, she embraced whatever was needed with strength and determination. Cherished as "Grandma," her bond with her family was profound, and her legacy will undoubtedly live on through them.

Wanda enjoyed playing dominoes with the ladies from her church every week, an activity she looked forward to with enthusiasm. Even as her health began to decline, her friends remained steadfast, visiting and supporting her, reflecting the love she bestowed on those around her.

She leaves behind two sons: Alan Williams (Brenda) of Little Rock and Jeff Williams (Robyn) of Benton; five beloved grandchildren: Luke Williams (Melissa) of Bryant, Shane Purvis (Amber) of Haskell, Matthew Williams (Kim) of Jacksonville, Jennifer Harris (Keith) of Benton, and Courtney Abeyta (Joey) of Fayetteville; along with great-grandchildren: Jackson Purvis, Alex Williams, Titus Williams, Jack Williams, Rhett Williams, and the new addition, Emma Harris. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Junior Fletcher, and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family and friends who will profoundly miss her.

Wanda is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jessie Frank Williams; her daughter, Gayla Williams-Drown; her precious baby great granddaughter Taylor Purvis; sisters: Wilma McBunch, Shirley McKinney, Gladys Barnes, and Madge Goodman; and brothers: Carl Fletcher, James Fletcher, and Glen Fletcher.

Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will be honored during services held at Smith Family Funeral Home in Benton, Arkansas. Visitation will take place on October 15, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 10:30 AM. Wanda will be laid to rest at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas at 12:00 PM the same day.

In lieu or flowers, donations in Wanda's name can be made to the Susan G. Komen foundation.

Her departure leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched throughout her incredible journey.
