Mary passed away on August 10, 2025, at Medina Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Medina, Ohio after a brief illness. Her children were by her side. She was a lifelong resident of Akron, and a winter resident of Venice, Florida. Mary was 98 years old at the time of her death.
Mary graduated from Buchtel High School, Greenbrier College for Women and attended The Ohio State University, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a member of the Akron Woman's City Club, Fairlawn Country Club, Junior League of Akron and Delta Delta Delta Akron Alumnae.
Her activities included the Akron General Hospital Woman's Board, volunteering and participating on many committees and in a variety of community projects. In addition, Mary delivered Mobile Meals for many years. Her favorite hobby was playing bridge, and she enjoyed belonging to bridge clubs at Woman's City Club and Portage Country Club.
Mary was preceded in death by George, her husband of 31 years; parents, Dr. Nelson Hoover and Ethel Beynon Hoover; sisters, Frances McCready and Eleanor Conkle, and granddaughter, Margaret Eileen Castrigano. She leaves her children, Bradley Wojno, Georgia (James) Castrigano, and Susan Hammond, all of Akron, Ohio. Also, Mary leaves her dearly loved grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Warbel, of Springfield, Virginia, Mary (Steve) Warbel, of Chardon, Ohio, Kathryn (John) Stack, of Akron, Ohio, Vincent (Giulia) Castrigano, of Cincinnati, Ohio, James Castrigano, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Benjamin (Paige) Castrigano, of Akron, Ohio. Great grandchildren include Michael, Benjamin, Max and Samuel Warbel of Springfield, Virginia, Ella and Will Stack of Akron, Ohio and Aaron, Rachael, Caleb, and Isaac Castrigano, of Cincinnati, Ohio.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Chapel,1361 West Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44313, on MONDAY, August 25, at 11:00 am. There are no calling hours. Private interment for family. The family will receive friends at the main reception room following the service.
