Billow's Funeral Homes & Crematory - Fairlawn ChapelMarilyn Jane Carr, a gifted educator, passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2025, at age 98. Born and raised in Akron to William J. and Pauline B. (nee’ Rowley) Carr, Marilyn was an elementary school teacher in the Akron Public Schools for 32 years. She earned a BA in Psychology from Miami University (Ohio) and a BA in Education from The University of Akron, where she later established a scholarship in her mother’s and sister’s names.
Marilyn was a life member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was involved with The College Club of Akron. She was a member of the Woman’s City Club, cherished her Bridge Club activities and friends and was a supporter of the Akron Symphony, enjoying many fine concerts right up through Spring 2025 with her cousin Meg McKenzie. Marilyn was a wonderful pen pal, loved to read, travel, attend concerts and plays, complete crossword puzzles, and reminisce about both the Carr and Rowley family histories.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, her sister Kathryn Carr, brother Bill Carr and his wife Elsie, and many cousins including Sue Rowley McKenzie of Akron. She leaves and is remembered by cousins Ann Rutherford and her children, Denise Hill and her family, Jim McKenzie and his children, and her dear cousins Meg McKenzie of Norton and John McKenzie and his family of Akron -- with whom she spent time weekly and enjoyed many life celebrations.
The family thanks the Gardens of Western Reserve and Marilyn’s special caregivers for their friendship and shared laughs over the past few years.
A graveside service will be held at the Carr family monument at Rose Hill Burial Park on MONDAY, September 8 at 11am. The Reverend Sandy Selby presiding. Enter Rose Hill’s Market St gate and the Carr monument is just down on the right.
