Mary Woodland Obituary

Mary Brendlinger Woodland born May 23, 1930 in Norristown PA passed away on November 12th, 2022 at Willowbrooke Court at Normandy Farms Estate in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Emanuel Leidy and Marguerite Kneule Brendlinger of Norristown, PA. She was a 1948 graduate of Eisenhower Senior High School, Norristown, PA and a 1952 graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education. After college, Mary taught Physical Education and coached field hockey at the Agnes Irwin School. Mary Woodland is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Horace Steen Woodland, DDS, her sisters, Elizabeth DeCosta, Marguerite Robinson, and Lovina Carroll and her daughter Mary Christine Schiller. She is survived by her sister Rosalie Smith and her five children Horace Steen Woodland II and wife Sandra (nee Griffin); Mark Brendlinger Woodland and partner David Blum; Marguerite Cecilia Bock; Lisa Woodland-Smith and husband Charles Smith; and Linda Piazza and husband Charles Piazza. In addition to her children, Mary is survived by eight grandchildren Melissa Jo, Horace (Chip), Spencer, Parker, Rachel, Andrew, Scott, and Ashley and two great grandchildren Holden and Nikolai. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was her life. In addition to her dedication to her family, Mary served as a volunteer with Montgomery Hospital, Freedom Valley Girl Scouts, Young Life, and the Wissahickon Band Parents. She was a Youth Leader for Calvary United Methodist Church in Ambler, an adult and children's Bible study leader, and an active member and leader in Bible Study Fellowship. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf, traveling, gardening, and family trips to the shore. She was a member of the Norristown Garden Club, Pi Alpha Sorority, and Kappa Alpha Theta. Mary was a devout Christian and faithful member of The First Presbyterian Church of Ambler. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given in her memory to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children-St. Christopher's Cystic Fibrosis Fund care of Dennis Washington, 160 East Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19134; Acts Legacy Foundation, 9000 Twin Silo Drive, Blue Bell, PA 19422, with Normandy in the memo; or The First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, 4 South Ridge Avenue in Ambler, PA 19002. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception at the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, 4 South Ridge Avenue in Ambler, PA; for a livestream of the service, please visit https://fpcambler.org/

It has been a little over a month since mom has passed. Her house is cleaned out, her memorial service is done. and we placed flowers at her grave site. Her sister, Rosalie, passed away last week, a month after mom. It's been a difficult holiday season for the family, but we have shared it together adn you have all shared it with us. Thanks for all the kindness and support.

We first met Mary and her friend JoAnna Fryling within couple days of moving to Normandy Farms. Both wonderful & memorable Ladies visited our new home & welcomed us with delicious cookies. We extend our prayers & sincere condolences to Marguerite, Linda & Mark as well as Mary´s entire gracious family and will always remember how fortunate we were to meet your wonderful mother so soon after our arrival. Mary remained our friend and we will miss her being part of our lives. A lady such as she will be remembered & missed by many.
