Mary Worland Obituary

Mary Maureen Worland Mary Maureen Worland (Whiteside) was born May 18th, 1933 to William Walker Johnson Whiteside and Marguerite Lily Whiteside in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Maureen Worland went home to be with the Lord and her husband Francis (Fritz) Edward Worland on the morning of May 20th, 2023 in Payson, Arizona. Having just achieved her 90th birthday, she left behind a legacy of caring, hard work, and love for her family.

Maureen came over to the United States from Belfast, Northern Ireland in May 1946 after World War II with her mother and younger siblings Elsie and Ian, to rejoin her father who had arrived earlier. They moved to Altadena, California where she met Fritz, whom she married on June 12th, 1953. Over the next 8 years she gave birth to Stephen, Susan, and Christopher (Chip) and was the center of the household in Sun Valley for the next 40 years. She worked as a medical transcriptionist through much of her life.

Upon Fritz's retirement they moved to a ranch in Grand Junction in 1990 and spent 30 years entertaining their visiting children, grandchildren, and other assorted family members and friends. Their home was always open and loving and a wonderful place to visit. She continued her transcription business in the office upstairs when the murphy bed wasn't deployed with a visitor, but she was happy to leave the office when company came calling.

Upon Fritz's passing in 2020, Maureen moved to Dripping Springs, Texas to be near her daughter Susan and her first great grandchild, and later moved to Payson, Arizona near Stephen and Chip for her final days.

Maureen enjoyed doll collecting, having several displays throughout the house of her finds, often bearing the name of various family members which focused her collection. There was also a sprawling Christmas village collection which perpetually overstayed the seasonal bounds just a little further every year. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, and solving crosswords and other puzzles.

She will always be remembered as that loving and hard-working mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She will be dearly missed, especially as matriarch of the Worland clan.

Maureen is survived by son Stephen (Linda) Worland, daughter Susan (Lance) Jensen, son Christopher (Linda) Worland, grandchildren Matthew (Jessica) Worland, Christine Worland, Melissa Jensen, Kyle (Jillian) Jensen, Nicole (Prescott) Worland, Kimberly Worland, and great-grandchildren Remy and Olivia Mae.

I only learned of Maureen's passing today, a little over a year later. I am truly sorry for your families loss as she truly was a special lady. I will cherish the white ceramic snowflakes she gave me before she moved and will think of her when I decorate my Christmas tree year after year. And will continue to appreciate her patience when guiding us crafty chatters at church, as well as during the ladies aid when she held a position on the committee as well as other times for other events at our church. Thank you for sharing your mom, grandma and great grandma with us for all those years.
