MaryAnn Emma (Laleman) Buysse was born on March 20, 1934, in Nordland Township, to Maurice and Helene (Slembrouck) Laleman. She grew up on the family farm, attended country school for three years, St. Edward Catholic School for five years, and graduated from Minneota High School in 1952. On February 16, 1955, MaryAnn was united in marriage to Harold Buysse at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. The couple raised seven children on the family farm before retiring to Minneota in 1986.
MaryAnn was a wonderful cook, often greeting her children with homemade bread and rolls after school. She made many pies throughout her life, and she was proud to host holidays for her family. She enjoyed canning and gardening vegetables and flowers. In her free time, MaryAnn enjoyed crocheting, reading, embroidering, walking, bowling, doing puzzles, and quilting at the Minneota Senior Center. She will be remembered for biking around Minneota on her three-wheel bicycle. MaryAnn loved dancing with Harold, and even after he was gone, she kept dancing. MaryAnn was a lifelong member of St. Edward Catholic Church, where she was a member of the CCW, Joan of Arc secretary, helped with funeral luncheons, and even served as a housekeeper for Father Jerry Hillsheim. She was a kind and selfless person who was always smiling. MaryAnn especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. She always greeted them with a hug and candy.
