Maryann Sweikert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 2, 2026.
Maryann Sweikert, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and the unmistakable presence at the center of her family, passed away on Christmas Day while visiting her daughter and son-in-law in Arizona.

She was born on February 8, 1940, in the Bronx, where her style, confidence, and expressive spirit were shaped early. She later raised her family in Yonkers, New York, before moving to New Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1975, where she built a life filled with friendship, laughter, travel, and unforgettable meals. She later spent her years in Connecticut as well as Hillsboro Beach, Florida.

She was the beloved wife of William for more than 62 years - and the love of his life since they were kids. Their bond was lifelong, deep, and unwavering, built on shared history, loyalty, and love.

She was the devoted mother of Maryann Porter and her husband Jon, and William and his wife Kathy. She was predeceased by her beloved son Robert and daughter Christine, losses she carried with resilience, strength, and grace.

She was the proud grandmother of Max, Sam, Rocco, and Anthony, whom she adored completely.

She is also survived by her cherished brother Michael Ingui, his wife Francine, and their family; her brother Vincent Ingui; and her beloved niece and nephew, Ellen Rinaldi and George Sweikert. Ellen and George's beautiful sister, Lora, predeceased her and was deeply loved. Their parents - Maryann's brother- and sister-in-law, George and Loretta Sweikert -were an important and meaningful part of her life and also predeceased her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Albert Consiglio and Celia Ingui, as well as her stepfather, Vincent Ingui. She was also predeceased by her brother Albert Consiglio and is survived by his devoted wife, Tusie Consiglio. She was also predeceased by her beautiful mother-in-law, Katherine Sweikert.

One of the most defining roles of her life was being the mother of a child with Down syndrome- a role that was truly perfect for her. She fought tirelessly for her daughter's independence and right to live a full, meaningful life, never accepting limits placed on her and never backing down when it mattered.

She was vivacious, animated, and full of personality, with a presence you felt the moment she entered a room. She was strikingly beautiful - dark hair, warm brown eyes, and her signature red lipstick, which she wore with confidence and flair. She loved shopping, loved traveling -especially cruising and trips through Europe - and she lived fully and unapologetically. Her cooking was legendary. She made gravy she could never explain - no measurements, no recipe, just instinct. Her meatballs were unmatched and impossible to recreate. When asked how she made them, she simply did. When she was clearly wrong, she'd give you a perfectly timed "whatever," and move right along. And when life delivered its hardest moments, she would shrug, smile, and say, "it is what it is." She had a wide circle of dear friends whom she loved deeply and laughed with often. Wherever she went, she brought warmth, stories, style, and energy - and she was never mistaken for anyone else.

Services will be held in the spring.

She will be deeply missed, always remembered, and forever loved.

Dear Billy and family, this was a shock to be reading and I am so deeply sorry and saddened to hear of the passing of Maryann. I can still hear her laughter and the many stories she shared with me. Remembering back to the days of joking around at the gym when not on the racket ball courts. The glean in her eye as she spoke about her grandchildren. The love and bond she shared with my buddy Billy brings a smile to the sadness. Thinking back 36 years when my first was born Ashley, followed by Alyssa Maryann always was gifting them little girly things that they were so excited to get. Rest in peace, my dear friend may your memory be eternal.

Dear Bill and family: It saddens me deeply to learn of the passing of my beautiful cousin, Maryann. Upon reflecting on many years past, I remember Maryann being like a big sister to me. As a teenager, she was full of life and laughter...she had a charming giggle and a no-nonsense personality and a pet mouse, too. I pray she is at rest and that someday all of you will be able to cope with this great loss. With great sympathy and love, Dianne and Robert Phelan.
