MaryLou DeLaO Hernandez March 28, 1937 – September 28, 2025 MaryLou DeLaO Hernandez, age 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at her home in
Roswell, New Mexico, on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Born in Marfa, Texas, on March 28, 1937, MaryLou married the love of her life, Juan Hernandez of Dexter, New Mexico, on November 8, 1961. Together, they were blessed with three beautiful children: Sylvia Aguilar, Jimmy Hernandez, and Johnny Hernandez. MaryLou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, and cherished family member. She took immense pride in her family and was known for her nurturing spirit, sharp wit, and playful sarcasm. Stern in her values yet overflowing with love, MaryLou taught those around her the power of tough love, laughter, and living fully. She is survived by her daughter Sylvia Aguilar and husband William Aguilar, son Jimmy Hernandez, and beloved daughter-in-law Veronica Hernandez-Trujillo (Tina Trujillo); grandchildren JoVonna Garcia and husband Michael Garcia, Santana-Jade Hernandez, Jordan Valverde and husband Javier Valverde, Vincent Aguilar, and Jimmy Juan Hernandez; and great-grandchildren Jaiden, Jocelyn, and Journey Wright, Michael, Isaiah, Alexis, and Jayden Garcia, and Aliana, Aubri, and Ace Valverde. MaryLou was a cherished godmother, known as "Maluna" to David and Robin Urban, and "Nina" to Sally Galindo, Anthony Tavarez and others. She treasured her relationships with her in-laws, who treated her as one of their own: Jose Angel Hernandez, Tobie Davidson, Margarita Galindo, Tino Hernandez, Pete Hernandez, Lillie Urban, and Andrea "Nanny" Hernandez. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan Hernandez; her son, Johnny Hernandez; her mother, Juana DeLaO; her in laws Pedro and Josephina Hernandez; her brother-in-laws, Jose Angel, and Tino Hernandez; her sister-in-laws, Margarita Galindo and Tobie Davidson; niece, Sally Galindo; nephew, Joe Galindo; and her cherished grandson, Jonathan Hernandez. MaryLou loved arts and crafts, solving crossword puzzles, playing Bingo at the Roswell Joy Center with her good friend Dalila Trujillo, and indulging in sweets-often hidden for her own enjoyment. Most of all, she cherished family time and created memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Funeral Services: Anderson Bethany Funeral Home will hold services. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 6–8 PM at Anderson Bethany. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 10 AM, followed by a procession to South Park Cemetery. Pallbearers: JoVonna Garcia, Santana-Jade Hernandez, Jordan Valverde, Vincent Aguilar, William Aguilar, David Urban, Jimmy Hernandez, Michael Garcia, and Javier Valverde. Honorary Pallbearers: Her great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all who have offered love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
