Marylou McDonald Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pippin Funeral Home - Camden Wyoming on Mar. 2, 2026.
Marylou Florence McDonald, 83, of Dover Delaware, beloved wife of the late James McDonald peacefully passed away on February 26, 2026. She will be dearly missed by her son David Paul McDonald and his wife Karen, daughter Christine Rosa Greoski and her husband Kevin, and son Michael James McDonald and his wife Ginger. She was the cherished Grandma of Joseph David Broussard, Daniel James Broussard, Katelyn Rose Broussard, Connor James McDonald, Mary Catherine McDonald, Benjamin David McDonald and Riley Michelle McDonald and beloved great grandmother of Oliva Isla Broussard.

Born April 2, 1942, in Bangor Maine, Marylou was the daughter of the late Lester and Florence LaCrosse, sister of Paul LaCrosse, the late Peter LaCrosse, and Jeannine Robertson. She was a 1960 graduate of Bangor High School where she met her future husband, Jim. She attended The University of Maine, Orono. Marylou and Jim moved to Laurel, Maryland in 1964 where they raised their three children. She worked in various roles at Citizens National Bank and Tower Federal Credit Union. Marylou completed her bachelor's degree in business at the University of Maryland in 1987. She later founded her own business, providing training at financial institutions. In 2012, Marylou and Jim re-located to Dover Delaware.

Marylou took up the sport of field archery in 1984 and in 1987 became a National Champion. She was awarded third place in the World Championships in 1988. As a child, Marylou learned to sew, knit and crochet under the tutelage of two caring Aunts. Beginning in 1991, she rediscovered her passion for quilting. She devoted herself to researching, teaching, tracing, lecturing, and creating Baltimore Album Quilts. Marylou was very active in many quilting guilds, museums, and groups. Through her interests and hobbies, Marylou formed many deep and cherished friendships.

Marylou also loved traveling, reading, and gardening. She had a true zest for life and a joyful outlook. At the young age of 80, Marylou delighted family and friends by convincing them to join her for a successful afternoon of skydiving – an experience that perfectly reflected her adventurous spirit.

Friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 6-8 p.m. with an evening vigil service at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Holy Cross, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 12 p.m. A reception to follow.

Mary Lou was Our friend and mentor. Her Inspiration led Terry and I to create 19 Baltimore Album Quilts so far. We traveled together while Jim was still alive to visit Mary Kovals quilt shop. All of our quilts are hand quilted by an Amish lady we found with MLou´s help. Many of our quilts are our interpretation of MLou patterns. She will be missed but never forgotten. We know you are with the love of your life!

We moved in across the street from Jim and Marylou in 1980. They were the best of neighbors, always ready to lend a hand after a snow storm when it was time to dig out. They gave us right-of-way through their yard to get to church so that we wouldn´t have to walk around the block. And they taught their children to be kind and "neighborly", which meant being kind and helpful because it was the right thing to do. Wonderful people. Our deepest sympathy to all the family.
