Marylou Smith, 87, passed away on December 18, 2025. Marylou was born on September 11, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the youngest of four children born to Willard and Mary Smith. Marylou was a graduate of North Kansas City High School.
She spent many years working as a forklift driver at the Safeway milk plant before retiring from the Food Barn Company, where she remained a proud member of the Teamsters. Known for her strong work ethic, Marylou also understood that family was the most important part of life, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She also enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and watching basketball.
Marylou was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Leona West, Willard Smith, and Johnny Smith; and her three children, Peggy Lynn Dyer, Wayne Dyer, and Louis Dyer. She will be fondly remembered and forever missed by her daughter, Mary (John) Benner; her grandchildren, Jessica (Frank) Skvarek, Isaac Benner, and Holly Buckley; great-grandchildren, Kylie Skvarek, Katie Morrow, Randy Morrow, Kalani Buckley, and Jimmy Dyer; her longtime partner, Mike; and many extended family members and friends.
Marylou will be laid to rest at Terrace Park Cemetery on Friday, December 26, 2025 at 1:00pm.
