Mateo came into this world full of strength. He was diagnosed with a hypoplastic left heart and heterotaxy prior to delivery. The hybrid surgery went well, his heart had good function, but unfortunately an infection developed. He battled a rare case of E. Coli the 1st time, was placed on ECMO for his heart and lungs, was placed on a CRRT machine to assist his kidneys, had liver damage, was on multiple medications to assist his blood pressure, was on multiple medications to stop his seizures, and battled the rare case of E. Coli for a 2nd time. Mateo demonstrated strength through every obstacle. Throughout his journey prayers have been continuously prayed for him and for his family. Mateo learned the meaning of love by listening to his mother read to him, having his parents hold him, having daily visits from his parents, and visits from his siblings. Mateo's life was full of highs and lows, but his family never gave up on him. The nurses and the doctors in the CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit) also gave Mateo love and care throughout his entire life. He truly was a warrior because he never gave up despite the obstacle. He demonstrated a tremendous amount of strength and courage to face any challenge that was given to him.
