Matilda Hart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jowett Funeral Home and Cremation Service - New Haven on Feb. 17, 2026.
Matilda Hart of Chesterfield Michigan, passed away at the age of 90, on February 16th, 2026.

Matilda was affectionally known as "Tillie" and was born on May 25th, 1935, to the late Manuel and Josephine Garcia. Her parents settled in Michigan after living in West Virginia, when her father immigriated from Spain. She met the love of her life in 1956 while working at Revere Copper & Brass. Together they raised 3 daughters. Tillie was a force to be reckoned with. She was full of spit and vinegar, a tribute to her Spanish heritage. She sure loved her grandchildren and looked forward to making them their favorite foods, including her famous pineapple upside down cake. Her family was her 1st priority. Richard and Matilda were married 69 years this past January. They were fortunate enough to have lived in several places during their marriage but always returned home to Northern Michigan where they lived for over 35 years.

Matilda is survived by her loving husband Richard, daughters, Kelly and Kory, her two son-in-laws, George and William, her sister, Lisa Alderman, grandchildren, Todd (Lauren), Tyler, Timothy and Shelly (Jeff), along with great grandchildren, Eleanor and Cayden.

Matilda was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Kim, and her brother-in-law, Ronald Alderman.

In accordance with her wishes, a cremation will take place, with a celebration of life at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Michigan in her honor.
