Matthew R. Bomysoad, September 8th, 1967- December 29th, 2021
While his time here on earth was unexpectedly cut short, Matthew R. Bomysoad (54) filled his years with a profound love and dedication to his family, friends and community. Matt had an old soul and walked many painful roads in this life, yet somehow, he found the courage to smile, to be selfless and to support others.
He served our country in the United States Army from 1986-1992 where he was a Sergeant and specialized in Telecommunications. He earned numerous badges including expert rifle and was awarded various medals including Army good conduct, Army achievement and Army commendation. Matt then went on to serve his community for over twenty years as a highway patrolman and detective for the Broome County Sheriff's Office, where he received numerous recognitions including a life saving award. Throughout the years, Matt's extensive knowledge of firearms allowed him to become a well-known armorer and following retirement, he became a lead instructor for firearms training with LongArm Investigations.
Matt was also an avid hunter and fisherman. An outdoorsman at heart, he passed down his knowledge and love for the hunt to his boys. However, in recent years, he found more peace and solace in protecting nature and bringing new life into it with his girls as they watched wildlife flourish, grew gardens full of food and flowers, and hiked the hills and ravines to collect amazing rock specimens. Matt had an uncanny intuition (which undoubtedly saved him on multiple occasions), an unmatched, quick-humored wit that may (or may not have) kept him out of trouble and had the memory of a steel trap making him the kind of guy you'd beg to be on your trivia team. Matt truly lived to make others laugh and was known for his creativity in making uniquely special gifts for just about everyone, whether they wanted them or not. But Matt was happiest when being of service and helping those who were in need. He went out of his way to do the right thing for everyone, always taking the high road even if it meant a sacrifice to himself and he did so without complaining or expecting anything in return. For this, he earned a long list of loyal friends and his place in heaven. Matt was predeceased by his parents, Robert O. Bomysoad and Rita McHale, and his brother Shane J. Bomysoad. He is survived by his soulmate/wife, Julie Fleming, and their beloved daughters, Tessa and Delaney, along with his four beloved sons whom he was so immensely proud of; Donovan and Sara Bomysoad, Nathan and Alexa Bomysoad, Jack Bomysoad, Luke Bomysoad; and two beautiful granddaughters, Olivia and Nora Bomysoad. He also leaves behind his beloved mother in law Nancy Fleming and siblings Saleem (Sam) Bomysoad, Tamera and Robert Simmons, Louis and Tanya Bomysoad, Barbara Woolfolk, Sherry DiRose and nephews who he thought the world of: Michael, Travis, Aaron (Simmons), Daniel, John, Caleb (Bomysoad).
Funeral Services for Matt will be held on Friday January 21, 2022 at 2 PM at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends on Friday the 21st from 11 AM until Service time at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, consider taking a minute or two out of your day in honor of Matt to appreciate nature, count your blessings and do a good deed for another.

I was fortunate in my life for having met, and then becoming friends with Matt. We spoke almost on a daily basis, it was always time looked forward to. I saw that his love, and deep caring for his family, especially his children, was the forefront to who he was. Matt's dry humor and ability to grasp the obvious in a slightly humorous way amazed me. It seemed as though every conversation we had, regardless of the subject, I learned something. Matt also had an incredible knowledge of firearms. I still see him as someone with respect for those that earned it, a willingness to help others in their time of need, a quiet soul with an immense sense of loyalty for the people he cared for. Matt had an underlying kindness that is hard to find. I will miss you my friend.
