Matthew Buzan

1988 - 2024

DELAND - Matthew Buzan, 35, transitioned from our world at 7:53 a.m. Friday, June 14, following a head-on vehicular collision on State Road 44 in Lake County, when an eastbound dump truck swerved into his westbound lane. His earthly body was laid to eternal peace June 28 in Carolina Memorial Sanctuary in Mills River, North Carolina.
Matthew was born Dec. 7, 1988, in Orland Park, Illinois, to loving parents, Steve and Janet Buzan.
Matthew was just weeks away from moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, with his fiancee, Alyssa Wong, and his dog, Eli.
An intermittent resident of DeLand since 1999, Matthew's intense fervor for adventure and risk-taking led him to reside in many places during his life: notably Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, Arizona and Tennessee.
Matthew shared his unique vision of a Living World through his exceptional talent for painting, often with a psychedelic tone on themes of nature, consciousness and the human condition.
He had an affection for music, skateboarding, kayaking and everything outdoors.
The depth of Matthew's spiritual connection to nature and his epistemological focus on the details shined through everything he did. He continually cultivated an outside-of-the-box awareness, exercising scrutiny of conventional reality-consensus.
Matthew's memory, artwork, brilliant humor, empathic listening and passion for living will forever be cherished by family and friends. His loyalty to the service of nature and others will continue to inspire.
Matthew is survived by his Mother, Janet Buzan (72); Father, Steve Buzan (70); Stepmother, Mary-Beth Buzan (60); Grandmother, Betty Buzan (103); Fiance, Alyssa Wong (34); Sisters, Melissa Henig (46), Crystal Buzan (46), Heather Engelman (44); Brothers, Jonathan and Andrew Buzan (33), Jonah Buzan (53); Stepsister, Sarah Shiel (39); and other beloved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.
