Matthew E. Canfield

Matthew E. Canfield, age 48, of Medina, OH passed away on October 3rd 2023. Matthew was the fourth and youngest son of Thurma "Bunny" Canfield and David Canfield Sr. A loving father, brother, and son, he is survived by his two daughters, Daphne, 19 and Maggie, 15; his father, David Sr.; his mother, Bunny and her partner Gary Marsh; his brothers, David Jr., Travis and his husband Ron Hahr, and Sam; and his best friend/pet cat, Squiggy.
Matthew's youth told a tale of wacky misadventures with his close group of childhood friends. After spending his late teens and early twenties moving from place to place and bonding with his three older brothers, he eventually settled down in Medina and started a family.
Always a working man, Matthew was an invaluable team member at the former Medina Blanking Division in Valley City, OH and its subsequent successors for thirty-odd years. He was a cheerful, energetic colleague and often lifted the spirits of others during long days and nights.
Well-known for his great sense of humor, Matthew brought laughter out of everyone he met. He embodied a carefree, live-in-the-moment attitude that will succeed him in the hearts of his loved ones.
Matthew was not only an amazing human being, but an unforgettable experience. His memory has much left to teach others about flexibility, hard work, and appreciating the little things in life. This man of many talents will live on in loving memory for all who he has touched with his laughter, sacrifice, and love.
Matthew's Celebration of Life ceremony will occur at 3:00pm on Saturday, Oct. 7th at Waite & Son Funeral Home in Medina, OH, officiated by Fr. Clay Huffman. Visitation will precede the service from 1-3:00pm.
