Matthew W. Cathers

Matthew W. Cathers, 52, of Smithton, died Saturday, September 27, 2025, as a result of injuries from a motorcycle accident. He was born March 31, 1973 a son of Carl and Michele (Mullen) Cathers. Matthew had served in the Army. He was employed by Carpenter's Union Local 452, Pittsburgh. An avid motorcycle rider, he enjoyed the free spirit of the ride. Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Vedette Moore; a brother, Michael Cathers; step children, Madison (Mike) Degennaro, Garret Farmerie, and Max (Nicolette) Farmerie; step grandchildren, Jaxon, Cecelia, and Sonny Degennaro, and Grayson Farmerie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christie in 2015; and brother-in-law, Brian Moore. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8 pm Friday and 11 am-12 pm Saturday, with a Funeral Service at 12 pm Saturday, in the J. William McCauley, Jr. Funeral Home, 901 Vine St., West Newton.
