Jack & Noi Hill
March 12, 2026
Matthew and I shared many chapters of life together, and I will always be grateful for the friendship we had. We first knew each other working at the mine in northeast Minnesota, and for many years we also served side-by-side as part-time police officers in Hoyt Lakes. Those were years filled with hard work, camaraderie, and plenty of stories that only those who were there could truly appreciate.
One of the things I remember most was Matthew's joy of riding motorcycles. He had a Honda Gold Wing, and he and his wife even rode down to visit us. Some of my favorite memories are the rides we took through the beautiful roads of northeast Wisconsin. On one ride around Lake Winnebago, we even traded motorcycles for a while—he took my Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic and I rode his Gold Wing. It was a great day and one my wife and I will always remember.
During that ride around Lake Winnebago, we stopped at Ardy & Ed’s Drive-In in Oshkosh, a classic Wisconsin landmark known for its homemade root beer served in frosty mugs and old-fashioned curbside service. Pulling in there on our motorcycles, enjoying a cold root beer, and sharing a few laughs was one of those simple moments that made the day unforgettable.
Our next stop was in Malone to climb the observation tower overlooking Lake Winnebago. It’s easy to think about all the miles traveled, the conversations shared, and the laughter along the way. Matthew was part of many good moments in my life, and I will always be grateful for that.
Over the past few years our contact had faded some, as life has a way of doing that. But the spirit of our friendship never faded. Matthew was a good man and a good friend, and the memories we made together will stay with me always.
Rest in peace, Matthew. I’ll never forget the miles we rode and the times we shared.
