Matthew Cross

Matthew A. Cross, 66, of Au Sable Forks, NY passed away at CVPH Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY on May 30th 2025 after an illness of many years.
Matt was committed to donating his organs to help any family in need. He was surrounded by his devoted family as well as numerous loving and caring friends. Beyond that, countless medical professionals and transplant survivors lined the halls in a moving ceremony of Matt's sacrifice.
Matt was born the son of Mark and Marguerite (Sharland) Cross at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base Hospital on November 8, 1958. He attended grade school at Holy Name Catholic School in AuSable Forks and subsequently graduated High School at Au Sable Valley Central School in Clintonville, NY.
He began his enviable work record as a young man and this led him to extensive travel throughout the United States and the Caribbean. He was a member of the International Alliance of Stage Employee's (IATSE) District 10 and 14, as well as the Iron Workers Local 440. He worked at numerous venues as a Stage Hand, but his preference was always the Olympic Arena in Lake Placid, NY. In the Iron Workers Union, he was very proud of working at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA. In his later years, Matt was a well known contractor and builder in the Lake Placid area. He worked in these capacities at The Point in Saranac Lake as well as many Great Camps on Lake Placid including Camp Solitude.
Matt was predeceased by his parents as well as his brothers Martin, Mark "Dan," and Merrill "Tim," and his sister who died at birth, Meredeth Victoria.
Matt left behind his beautiful daughter Jesse Cross Lamitie and grandchildren Jaxon and Madalyn Lamitie; brothers Michael and Thomas; Aunts Margaret (Dale) Gordon of Peru, NY, Joyce Cross of Jay, NY and Nona Hoskins of Westport NY; Uncle Christopher (Linda) Cross of Huntersville, NC; his daughter's mother Julie Berry of Malone, NY; his beloved partner Lori Wood; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11 AM in the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville. A reception will follow the Mass, with details to be provided at church.
