I have cherished Matt's freindship since we met in high school in 1965. I will miss him greatly. Hope to see him in the next life.

I first met Matt in 1971, in Clarkston, GA. He was one of a small group of high school friends whom I got to know when I was an antiwar activist attending DeKalb Junior College. Matt and his friend Fred Hudson and I used to go out to eat or to the movies. Matt was a good friend--lively, animated, intelligent. He was very well informed about national politics, and we had many interesting discussions of current political developments.
After I moved to Maine in 1976, I returned to the Atlanta area occasionally, and I would try to visit Fred and Matt if I could. On one occasion after Matt moved to Alpharetta, Fred and I drove out there, and we spent an afternoon with Matt. The three of us had lunch together and took in a movie. Though Matt was facing some medical challenges by then, we had a great time together--it felt just like being twenty-something again. And he was just as up-to-date as he had ever been about national politics.
Matt was a kind person and a good friend. Though our lives took different directions, I will miss him.
