Matthew William Erwin, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Shepherd, Texas, on March 31, 2025, at the age of 54. Born on April 25, 1970, in San Antonio, Texas, Matthew lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep sense of faith.
In his earlier years, Matthew was the owner-operator of Pyramid Carpet Cleaning, where he brought not only skill but also a friendly face to his customers, always ready with a kind word or a joke. Known for his outgoing personality, he loved to talk to people and never met a stranger. Matthew's zest for life was matched by his love for country music and classic television shows, including The Dukes of Hazzard and Star Trek. He also enjoyed collecting baseball caps and building model cars, pursuits that highlighted his creative spirit.
"Matthew was a valuable member of Porter First Baptist Church in Porter, Texas, and Northview Baptist Church in Humble, Texas. He wanted, as we all do, to be accepted, respected, and loved. He professed a strong belief that he would one day see his parents again in Heaven."
He is survived by his devoted wife, Melissa Goins Erwin, whom he cherished for seven wonderful years; his son, Luke Erwin; and his daughter, Rhonda Erwin. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Becky Thornton, and her husband, Jeff, along with a multitude of loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Matthew’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew him; however, his spirit and the joy he brought to others will continue to be celebrated. He was preceded in death by his father, William Whitney Erwin, and his mother, Theola Beth Marshall Erwin.
A visitation will be held on April 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM at 200 S Washington Ave, Cleveland, Texas 77327. Matthew's legacy of kindness, humor, and faith will remain in the hearts of those he touched.
