Services for Matthew Wade Gandy, 54, of Tyler, will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler with Rev. Steve Turrentine officiating. A private inurnment will follow at Midway Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Gandy passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, in Tyler.
Matthew was born July 15, 1971, in Tyler to Patricia Ann Sullivan and Kenneth Wade Gandy. He was a 1989 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1995. He began his professional life as a chemical process engineer before transitioning to education, where he taught chemistry and physics, primarily at John Tyler High School.
He married Michelle Gordy on September 2, 2000, in Gilmer, Texas. Matthew is survived by his mother, Patricia Rozell; his wife, Michelle Gandy; and his daughters, Kenna, 21, Kara, 17, and Kylie, 12.
Matthew will be remembered for his intelligence, humor, quick wit, and strong work ethic. He approached life with logic, resourcefulness, and curiosity. His interests were wide-ranging and included music, hiking, biking, working with his hands, model building, architecture, history, and UT football. He also supported the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Honorary pallbearers are Mac Dale, Mike Sullivan, Clay Jones, and Billy Rozell.
Matthew's presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many students whose lives he touched.
