Ronny Q. Gandy, age 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025, at UT Health Tyler Hospital in Tyler, Texas. He was born on October 12, 1954, in Athens, Texas to Glenn and Phyllis Gandy and was the second youngest of four brothers. A proud graduate of LaPoynor High School in 1973, he finished as the salutatorian of his class. Ronny followed in his father's passion for basketball and recently received a medal celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Flyers' State Championship from 1973 to 2023. He married his high school sweetheart, Kay Terrell, on July 28, 1973, at Leagueville Baptist Church. Together, they settled near their family in New York, Texas, where they raised three sons: Rowdy (born 1974), Craig (born 1978), and Josh (born 1981). During his career, Ronny worked for over 30 years at power plants as a crane operator and boilermaker, always providing for his family. Ronny was known for his willingness to help others and had a unique gift for making people laugh with his jokes and life stories. He loved the outdoors and had a passion for cows, dogs, guns, and fishing. He took great pride in his land and cherished hunting and fishing trips with his four grandchildren: Rowdy (born 2006), Garrett (born 2007), Robby (born 2008), and Grant (born 2009). The grandchildren always felt loved and welcomed at "Pops" and "Gran-Gran's."
He is preceded in death by his son, Rowdy Gandy; parents, Glenn and Phyllis Gandy; father-in-law, John Terrell; and brother, Sammy Gandy.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Gandy; sons and daughters-in-law, Craig Gandy and wife Wendy and Josh Gandy and wife Chera; grandchildren, Rowdy, Garrett, Robby, and Grant Gandy; brothers, Danny Gandy and wife Rae and Randy Gandy and wife Melinda; mother-in-law, Julia "Ma" Terrell; brother-in-law, Allen Terrell and wife Sandra; sister-in-law, Lynn Almon and husband Gary; and a host of nephews and nieces.
