Matthew "Matt" Harman

Surrounded by family, Matthew J. Harman, 61, of St. Albans went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026 at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston following a cardiac event.

He is preceded in death by his parents Danny and Alice Harman, and his brothers Cameron Harman and Marshall Cerullo.

He was a graduate of Nitro High School, Class of 1982. Many remember Matt working on their vehicle at Harman's Body Shop in St. Albans alongside his father, Danny. When you walked in, you could smell the aroma of paint mixed with coffee. You knew you'd be greeted with a friendly conversation and the occasional pack of Skittles Matt kept on hand. He enjoyed hunting and tinkering around in the garage, and he loved spending time at his family camp in Upshur County roasting pigs on July 4th, riding four-wheelers, and sitting by the fire sharing stories of memories past.

He is survived by his children Danielle Hensley (Harvey) of St. Albans, Matthew Harman (Ty) of Hurricane, and their mother Lorrie Harman of Nitro. He is also survived by his siblings Gale Harman (Jodie) of Tornado, and Jennifer Knapp of Savannah, GA. Matt loved his grandchildren, they were his entire world. He always looked forward to seeing them. For Addyson and Kolton, he had a list of things to help him with around the house and was always ready to watch movies with them. For Larson, Lennox and Link he was ready to surprise them with candy and sweets. He always made sure his grandbabies were happy and loved. He was also graced with 13 nieces and nephews, uncle, Gareth Harman to whom he lived with, many loving aunts, cousins, and friends who became family along the way.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 6 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the memorial service.

The memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2026 at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans with Pastor Paul Ronk officiating. A private burial will follow at the Harman Family Cemetery.
