Polly Downey Obituary
She was born October 13, 1947 to the late Dalton Junior Young and Jennie DeHart LeBleu Young. She was also preceded by brother, Link Young.
Polly never met a stranger. She enjoyed serving in the kitchen at church, working with youth, and traveling with the Young at Heart group. She also loved spending time with old and new friends. She enjoyed her needlework friends and left many beautiful pieces for us to enjoy. Polly's greatest Joy was found in spending time with her family. Large gatherings for holidays and beach trips were yearly highlights and created sweet memories for everyone. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and took great pride in sharing their pictures with everyone.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, David Lee Downey of St. Albans; children, Margie Keeling (Doug) of Muscle Shoals Alabama, Matt Downey (Lisa) of St. Albans and Jenny Allen (Chris) of Clendenin; sister, Tracy McGrath (Joe) of St. Albans; brother, David Young (Robin) of St. Albans; brother in law, Scott Downey (Becky) of St. Albans; grandchildren, Brett (Stormi), Alissa (Chris), Brittany (Dane), Kristen (Jacob), Destini (Forrest), Matthew, Jake, Zach and Lilly; great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Noah, Elaina, Tallulah, Alice Anne, Arlo, Oakley and Shepard; and many other extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at First Baptist Church of St. Albans, with Rev. Joel M. Harpold officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to Samaritan's Purse at P.O. Box 3000, 801 Bamboo Road, Boone NC 28607.
We are so thankful she has now been made whole and rejoicing in the arms of Jesus with no more pain.

So many wonderful memories we all shared of our boys and sports. When we look back and realize how blessed we were to have such great times as sports families. Polly obviously carried her love of the youth through out her life. A life well lived. Rest in Peace.
