Kok Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Cottage GroveMatthew “Matt” Jensen, age 48 of Hastings, MN passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025.
Matthew was born on February 23, 1977 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Dallas and Ruth Jensen.
Matt’s Story & Legacy
In 2007, an ATV accident changed Matt’s life and left him wheelchair-bound, but he never let that define him. He faced every challenge with strength, resilience, and an unwavering positive spirit that inspired everyone around him. Matt lived life with purpose and passion, showing that even in the face of adversity, spirit and determination can thrive.
Matt was an avid hockey fan and a proud Minnesota Wild season ticket holder, attending countless games over the years. He played hockey for several years with Cottage Grove and later spent 10 years as a dedicated hockey dad, supporting his son on and off the ice. Matt loved driving tow trucks — a job he truly enjoyed. He also had a passion for metal and rock music, which became the soundtrack to so many moments of his life. Matt loved to smile, laugh, and to make others laugh — his sense of humor was infectious and one of his many gifts. His smile sparkled and was one of a kind, brightening the lives of everyone around him.
To his son, Tyler, Matt was not only a loving father but also a best friend and guiding light. Through the highs and lows, Matt was always there — offering love, support, and wisdom. Tyler shares, “No matter the situation or circumstances, through my worst times and my best times, he was always there for me. I don’t know anyone else who could have gone through what he did and kept the amazing attitude that he always had."
"Matt’s selflessness, strength, and genuine heart touched countless lives. His story, his love, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him."
Matthew is survived by his son Tyler Jensen; mother Ruth Conrad; brother-in-law Tim Carrier; niece Amber Carrier; nephew Adam Carrier; friend Jana Guillot; and many other loving family and friends. Matthew is preceded in death by his father Dallas Jensen; sister Angie Carrier; and step-father Dave Conrad.
