Matthew Allan Lee Loomer was born on September 7, 1982, in Watford City, North Dakota, to Gloria Loomer and the late Ricky Loftis. At the age of 9, he was adopted by David Loomer, who had been a huge part of Matthew's life since he was 6 months old.
In his teenage years, Matt met his best friend, Travis Horner. They were both 16 when their friendship began, and from that point on, they were practically inseparable. Ever since Matt was sweet sixteen, he could light up any dark room with his teasing charm and signature smile. He was the life of the party, the shoulder we leaned on during hard times, and the ride we called when we needed a little adventure. His motto was simple but true to who he was: Live Free, Drive Hard!
From the start, Matt had a love for fast cars, loud trucks, and big block engines. Adventure called to him-whether he was behind the wheel or hanging onto the step-side of David's old Ford (don't tell David). Later, Matt and Trav moved to Apple Valley, where they worked in siding and windows while staying with his sister. Eventually, they moved back to Sidney, where Matt worked for Thiel Brothers Roofing.
Loyal to the core with a heart bigger than most, Matt cared deeply for the people he loved. Always dreaming, scheming, and reaching for the next big thing, he followed paths that took him into welding and the oil fields-where he dedicated himself to providing for his family and chasing after life's next adventure.
As Matt grew older, his adventures continued-from fishing trips to teaching his kids how to drive down dusty country backroads whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed welding and turning wrenches on anything with an engine. Many of his free hours were spent in the shop passing on his knowledge to his kids. In recent years, Matt also found joy in reading-you'd often find him with a book in hand or a deck of cards ready to play.
A true jack-of-all-trades, Matt held many roles over the years: rig hand, welder, mechanic. Most recently, he worked at Busy Bees Hot Oil with his son Karsyn. They both cherished the time spent working side by side, learning from each other and sharing laughs along the way.
On September 12, 2004, while cruising through Williston, North Dakota, with his friend Ryan Sergeant, Matt met Jennifer by accident in the "dirt lot"-he thought she was someone he knew. Fate stepped in, and their connection was instant. They married in April 2008 and were blessed with four beautiful children: Sienna Lynn, James David, Karsyn Daniel, and AnnaLee Rae Marie, along with a bonus son, Xavier Marcus.
Though twelve years later Matt and Jennifer would separate, their time together and the family they built remained some of the most important chapters of his life. The years that followed were some of Matt's hardest. He wasn't perfect-none of us are-but he gave all he could to the people he loved. He had a unique gift for seeing the good in everyone, even when it was hard to find.
Later, Matt met Daniella Landry, and together they began a new chapter full of love and adventure. Rarely apart, they became each other's constant. On January 20, 2025, Matthew experienced one of his proudest moments-becoming a grandfather to Damon Grey-Herman.
Matt had a wandering soul-always searching for new roads, new dreams, and new places to leave his mark. Whether chasing sunsets, turning wrenches, or finding the next backroad to explore, his heart was always restless, always moving forward.
At the young age of 42, Matthew unexpectedly passed away on June 26, 2025. In his final moments, he was surrounded by family and friends who loved and cherished him. Even during the hardest times, Matt could always find the words to make you smile, laugh, and remember what mattered most.
Matt is survived by his children: Sienna, James, Karsyn, AnnaLee, and Xavier; his grandson Damon; his parents Gloria and David; siblings Jennifer (Blaine), Rabyrda, Danielle, and Todd; nieces Shanna (Zach), Kaylee, Ashlynn, Taylor, Aunnika, Aspen, Addison, and Serephina; nephews Nevada, Jeffrey, Adam, Jackson, Dodge, and Broden; great-nephews Jeremiah, Rhett, Rowan, Braxtyn, and Lane; great-niece Addalyn, Lorraine; his significant other Daniella Landry and her children; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his unborn son Waylon James (2006), his biological father Ricky Loftis, his brother Charley, Uncle Daniel, Uncle Richard, Aunt Kathy, paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents, and extended family members Jim Zueger and Cory Zueger.
Matt's legacy is one of love, loyalty, laughter, and adventure-a life lived full throttle, with heart, humor, and a wandering soul that now rests in peace.
