Matthew Lee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary - Dothan on Jan. 14, 2026.
Matthew Charles Lee, Jr., a pillar of unwavering strength and a beacon of sincerity, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, surrounded by the familiar comforts of his beloved Alabama home. Born on December 20, 1940, in the heart of Dothan, Matthew's journey was one of deep-rooted love and steadfast commitment to his family, his work, and his community.

Matthew, known affectionately as M.C. to his friends, was a true embodiment of the values he held dear. His 62-year marriage to Jessie Mae was a testament to his loyalty and the unshakeable bond they shared. Together, they raised a family that admired and emulated Matthew's integrity and devotion. His sons, Michael and David (Bridgett) Lee, carry forward the legacy of their father's name, instilling the same virtues in their own children.

A proud graduate of Carver High School's class of 1959, Matthew's journey was not one of idle wanderlust but one deeply anchored in the soil of his hometown. On March 2, 1963, he married Jessie Mae, and their love story became a guiding light for those fortunate enough to witness it. Their union was blessed with two sons, who have since expanded the Lee family tree with their own children, Dakai, Destiny, Christian, Cayden, and Bailey Lee.

Matthew's professional life was as storied as his personal one, with a remarkable 44-year tenure at the Southeast Alabama Gas District. His career was a reflection of his dedication and a mirror to his character-honest, reliable, and unwavering. His contributions to the community went beyond his occupational achievements; they were etched in the very foundations of Dothan, a city he helped strengthen with every day of hard work and every act of kindness.

As we remember Matthew Charles Lee, Jr., we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on the world. His legacy is not only in the physical structures that stand tall because of his labor but also in the hearts he touched and the lives he enriched. He was a man who knew the value of a day's work, the warmth of a family's embrace, and the simple joy of being true to oneself.

Matthew is survived by his treasured family, who will continue to honor his memory by living the principles he embodied. His children, Michael and David; his grandchildren, Dakai Lee, Destiny Lee, Christian Lee, Cayden Lee, and Bailey Lee, one sister: Joann Wesley will forever cherish the wisdom he imparted and the unconditional love he provided.

In the quiet of the Alabama dusk, as we bid farewell to Matthew Charles Lee, Jr., we find solace in knowing that his spirit remains a guiding light, a steadfast star in the firmament of our lives.
