Matt Colvin, 56, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away early on Monday September 1st.
He was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1968 to Elizabeth Lerman and Charles Colvin. Matt was a proud Daytonian. He seemed to know and have a story for every neighborhood, every street in the city.
Matt was preceded in death by his beloved dad, Steven Collins and his brother Isaac Collins. Matt is survived and missed by his mom, Beth Clarke Lerman, his dad Chuck and mom Linda Colvin. His siblings James Colvin (Alma), Tracy Sibbing (Matthew), Michael Collins (Maggie), and Madeline Collins. He was also loved by Michelle Gordon. His beloved daughters, Dylan (Zach) and Izabelle (Daniel), who will miss him dearly. His grandson, Arlo Colvin-Borts, has inherited Matt’s love of plants and music. We’d like to acknowledge his best friend for decades, Brian Rairden, who challenged and stood by him.
Matt was a part of the class of 1986 at Colonel White H.S. He was an avid musician involved in the Dayton music scene for years. He was an earnest advocate for all things cool. He was effortlessly and genuinely friendly. Matt could watch any sport and make you think it was the most interesting thing on the planet. Recently, he developed a love for baking and for his plants. In Matt’s honor we think you should call up a friend, put on your favorite album, watch fall sports - just give yourself permission to enjoy life.
Matt was able to restore sight to two people through organ donation. Per Matt’s wishes, he will be laid to rest peacefully with a natural burial in the prairie at Glen Forest Natural Burial Cemetery in Yellow Springs.
On Saturday September 6th there will be a celebration of life at The Southern Belle (134 N. Patterson Blvd. Dayton, OH 45402) from 2 pm - 5 pm.
