Matthew Mims Jr. better known in his earlier years as Tarzan, because of his carved physique, was born in Daphne Alabama on April 22, 1951, until his departure, on January 20, 2025. Matthew was always physically active. He was always outgoing and kept the party going. Matthew never met a stranger.
He joined the Job Corps after high school where he furthered his training as a boxer. While at Job Corps, he often spared with the heavyweight champion George Foreman before Mr. Foreman became a professional fighter. His hobbies were going to the dog track and bragging about his fishing skills. He was a New Orleans Saints fan as long as they were winning the game. He loved the casino more for the conversations with anyone nearby than the rewards he got from wins in the machines. He didn't mind telling young people about his past and laughing at himself about some of his escapades as a young man. He loved his wife Constance. They were married on February 25, 2005.
His favorite secular song was "They Call Me Henpick." Which Matthew often expressed, like a badge of honor, and would often reply I've just been pecked by the right hen. Matthew spoke into existence the day he would depart his earthly body by continually stating "It will be a cold day in. when I leave my wife". And it was. Southern Mississippi recorded the largest snowfall in 100 years the night he transcended.
Matthew Officially accepted Christ as his Savior in 2004 while attending Gulf Coast Christian Center in Mobile Alabama. He later became a member of Perfect Peace, Christian ministries in 2010 where he developed a hunger for more knowledge of the word of God. Just as in his early years when he'd speak to anyone who would engage in conversation then, he continued in his talkative ways but his topics changed and was often about the goodness of God. His joking, fun sense of humor, and ability to see good in everyone will truly be missed by all.
Matthew was the 10th child of 17 children born to his mother Clara (Sexton) Mims and father Matthew Mims Sr.
He is preceded in death by Both parents and 13 of his siblings.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Constance E. Mims; his constant faithful Companion PEPPER MIMS (his dog/son); his son, born Matthew Mims now Mansur Muhammad ( Lajuanda Muhammed); four 4 step-daughters (which he called his bonus daughters), Aletha M. Smith (Anthony Smith), Mrs. Adrian M Edwards (Mr. Adrian L. Edwards), Angela M. Falconer, and LaToya Carroll; fourteen grandchildren with other expected to arrive July 15th 2025; and two great-grandsons; his siblings, Mary Spears, Tony Mims (Carol Mims), Ricky Mims (Evelyn Mims), and Vicky Smith; and other relatives and friends.
