Matthew Miotla Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home - New Hartford on Sep. 17, 2025.
Mathew A. Miotla of Utica, NY and Valencia, Ca. passed away on Saturday August 23rd with his loving family by his side.

Matt was born in Utica, New York on April 26,1950 to Mathew and Frances (Sojda) Miotla. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1968 and continued his studies at SUNY Oswego graduating in 1972.

Matt left Utica in 1986 & relocated to California where he spent 25 years working in the Aerospace industry as an engineer. During that time he was awarded a U.S. patent for his design of a military plane bomb lock. When asked if a bomb lock is a big deal, Matt responded "it is if it doesn't work". That comment was indicative of the quick witted sense of humor that he displayed throughout his entire life.

Matt was a kind, caring man that would do anything to help anyone in need. He loved California life as a young man, golfing, boating, traveling & many weekend trips to Las Vegas. He returned to Utica in 2021.

Matt is survived by his brother Dennis (Frederick,Maryland), sister Melanie (Whitesboro), niece & nephews Alex, Paige & Mathew. He also leaves longtime friends John Drobinski (FL), Ruth Kempton (MD) & Terry & Mike Montgomery (CA).

He is predeceased by his parents.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Sitrin Health Care Center, too many to name, who showed Matt so much love & support during his last 4 years there. You became his family & treated him like yours. That kindness will never be forgotten!

Family & close friends can gather at 11:30am with a memorial service to begin at 12:15pm, held on Friday August 29th at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford, NY.

Internment will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery immediately following service.
