Matthew T. Ohman, 41, of Millbury, passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 10, 2025, while doing something he loved, winning a competitive basketball game with his family. His competitive spirit and passion for sports were central throughout his life.
Born in Worcester, Matthew was the beloved son of Thomas P. Ohman, Sr., and Gayle (Maloney) Ohman. He was raised in Grafton, where he excelled as an athlete and graduated from Grafton High School. A natural leader, he served as team captain and was a two-time MVP of the school’s hockey team. He later attended Quinsigamond Community College, where he continued pursuing his passion for competitive sports as a pitcher on the baseball team for a season.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Matthew joined the Worcester Police Department, where he proudly served as the city's Animal Control Officer for the past twelve years. His dedication to his work reflected his kindness and unwavering respect for both people and animals alike.
On March 21, 2013, Matthew married the love of his life, Krystina M. Bombard. Together, they built a home in Millbury filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion as they raised their two children, Landon and Riley.
Matthew leaves behind his loving wife, Krystina, and their cherished children, Landon and Riley; his parents, Thomas and Gayle Ohman; his brother, Thomas Ohman Jr; his sister, Melissa Ohman-Ramadan, and her two sons, Dante and Dorian, of Worcester. He will be deeply missed by his mother and father-in-law, Dawn Hunt and James Bombard, his sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, niece, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins, his lifelong friends Brett, Dave, and Michael, along with countless others.
An exceptional athlete throughout his life, Matthew had a true love for sports, especially hockey, basketball, and golf. He was a proud member of the EMC/Dell golf league with his father at the Highfields, where he achieved the hole-in-one honor on hole two. He treasured any time spent on the course or court with friends and family. He brought passion and playfulness to every game, and his competitive nature was matched only by his kindness and generosity.
Above all, Matthew was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. His happiest moments were those spent with family and friends, often centered around the games he loved.
Family and friends are invited to the calling hours on Sunday, August 17, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 18, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
