Ssgt Matthew Polizzi, 42, passed away in his Garner, NC home on Monday January 26, 2026. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a legacy of honorable service to his country. Matthew was born August 29, 1983, in Cherry Point, NC, to Donald Polizzi and Charlotte Leeming both originally from Rochester, NY.

Matthew proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Staff Sargeant. He dedicated 14 years of active duty service to his country and exemplified courage, leadership, and sacrifice throughout his military career. He enlisted as an infantry man, later serving as an Advanced Assaultman, Urban Breacher, Martial arts Instructor, Drill Instructor, and infantry unit leader. He completed 3 combat deployments and was awarded the Purple Heart as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor, among other honors. Matthew's service reflected his unwavering commitment to his fellow Marines and to the ideals he defended.

Beyond his military accomplishments, Matthew was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He shared 18 years of marriage with his beloved wife Erica Polizzi, and together they built a life rooted in love, strength, and family. He was a proud and dedicated father to his 3 children, Seeley Nicole Polizzi (15), Evren Aaron Polizzi (12), and Kierron Daniel Polizzi (11), who were the center of his world.

Matthew is also survived by his brother, Samuel Justin Polizzi; his step mother Gina Polizzi, stepbrother Shawn Vititoe and step sister Michelle Vititoe. He is lovingly remembered by his grandparents, Art and Gloria Leeming, who held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel and Donna Polizzi.

Matthew will be remembered as a warrior, a leader, and all above, a loving family man. His courage, sacrifice, and devotion to his country and to those he loved will never be forgotten.
