Matthew Powelson

Matthew Powelson, 68, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. He was born on June 22, 1957 in Illinois to Gerald Melvin & Rita Lorraine Luton Powelson. Married Sherry Griffith on December 31, 1994 in Burlington, IA. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2001. He was a painter most of his life and enjoyed spending time by the river and going on drives. His biggest joy was his grandchildren.
Matthew is survived by: 3-children: Nathan Miller of Topeka, KS, James (Shelby) Miller of Holts Summit, MO & Jessica Miller of Fort Madison, IA; 9-grandchildren; 1-brother: Roger (Kim) Powelson of Clifton Hill, MO; 3-sisters: Gerry Pohlpeter of Fort Madison, IA, Sherry (Rocky) Aschbrenner of Fort Madison, IA & Jeanne (Donny) Hogan of Nauvoo, IL. He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife, 1-son: Sgt. John Miller & 1-brother: Steve Powelson.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A celebration of life and a burial will be held at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.
