Sue Powelson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 19, 2025.
Sue Ann (Stillings) Powelson, age 72, of Marion, died on Monday, November 17th, 2025, peacefully surrounded by the children who loved her dearly after bravely facing extended illness complications. Her last spoken words on earth were "I love you too".

On April 19, 1953, Sue was born in Marion, Ohio, to Charles Millard Stillings and Verna Maxine (Pickett) Petry. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1971. She earned her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing at Marion Technical College in 1975. She retired from Marion General Hospital on April 19, 2019, after 43 years as a registered nurse. Nursing was one of her greatest passions. She was married to the late Ronald Powelson from May 25, 1973, until March 18, 2009, when he preceded her in death.

Some of Sue's other passions were her children and grandchildren; she loved babysitting them, reading to them, playing with them, being adventurous, and being up for any activity. She was a dedicated Christian. She loved sharing Jesus with others and serving in the church, whether in the nursery with the babies or greeting and welcoming others. Mount Vernon Avenue Church of Christ was her home church, but she also loved the congregation at Celebration Christian Church. Sue enjoyed gardening, especially taking pride in her flower beds; cooking for people, sewing, and feeding the birds. For years, she volunteered her time with Leapin Ministries, serving the community with compassion and prayer. Even when she was no longer able to communicate verbally, the nursing staff reported that she would still show signs of love and compassion by covering patients in the halls with their blankets and patting their shoulders. Sue was always complimented on her radiant smile and, often, her orneriness.

She will be missed so much by her family: Angela Mahaffey (late Dan Mahaffey), Kara Luman (Charles Luman), Jeffrey Powelson (Amber Schnitzler), the late Steven Powelson, Ron Powelson Jr (Paige Walker). Her Grandchildren are Elijah Mahaffey, Charlie Luman, Jonathan Luman, Kathryn Luman, Alanna Powelson, Michael Powelson, Emmett Powelson, and Breanna Powelson. Her faithful 4-legged companion, Sophie. Her best friend, Tom Heinle. Her sisters, Kathy Ivey (Travis Ivey Sr) and Barbie Kuba (Ritchie Kuba), and her late brother, Charles Stillings.

The Powelson Family has planned to hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, at 4:00pm at Boyd's Funeral Home, 122 W Columbia St, Marion, OH 43302. Her family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to the Ridge Family for their love and support at this time.
