I am heartbroken, and so sorry to hear of your loss. Matt was a close friend in the early years of our time at University of Michigan. Matt was brilliant in every sense of the word; he was so kind, creative, smart, and enthusiastic that he truly did light up the world.
Matt changed my life, and made me a better person. The courage he had in coming out, and his encouragement that his friends join him in celebrating gay rights was the inspiration for me to get involved in an issue that has been close to my heart for the past 20+ years. Though we haven't been in touch in recent years, Matt has made my life much richer. He will live on, influencing the way I walk in the world forever.

So sorry to hear this news, and so late. I was thinking of him only the other day. I have particularly fond memories of staying up all night with him 20 years ago as we co-edited his undergrad thesis!
Matthew was so full of life and had a keen spirit that justice must be done and *can* be done; we need but will it.

I just learned of Matt's passing. I knew him well at UM. I was so proud of him, as mentor and friend, of his outstanding leadership especially in the campus LGBT community. I will always hold him in highest esteem and keep him close in my heart. May his memory be a blessing for all of us...

Matt, I am heart broken to hear you are no longer with us. Your spirit, energy and passion were such inspiration to many including myself. It is hard to believe that was over 20 years ago, but your selfless dedication to LGBT equality and rights was unmatched. I looked up to up, envied you and learned from you. You made it fun and an honor to work with you. You always had a smile that got you in the door, and a mind that changed others. No matter the struggle- you were there. Dear Robison family,

I don't know that I have words that can capture what an important role that Matt played in my life. I always felt like an outsider growing up, like I didn't quite fit in. And Matt always made me feel loved, welcomed, and it is my hope that I was the same for him. While many reference his academic and career accomplishments, what stands out most to me about Matt is is humanity, kindness, and generous heart. Every ounce of that smile was authentic and you could feel his positive presence in a room. We had countless hangouts growing up and shared our hopes, dreams, and secrets. He was one of the very best friends I've ever had. And I have missed him over the past years and will continue missing him. May you rest in peace, Matthew Robison.
