It is with great sorrow that we share the tragic passing of Matthew Alexander Sovick on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born Sept. 25, 1980, in Pittsburgh, Matt will always be remembered as being the loudest person in the room. Underneath his big booming voice was the softest interior a very generous and kindhearted man who would never hesitate to help family, friends, or a stranger in need. Matt was a devoted family man, known for being a great protector and provider. The proud father of Haley, Michael, Matthew Jr., Matthew "Boopa," and Harley. He never wasted an opportunity for a teaching moment. He was a wise man who imparted his wisdom and advice to anyone willing to listen. As a man of great faith, he instilled an abundance of strong morals, fierce love, total honesty, and great respect within his children. He was a best friend to the love of his life, Melissa, who could never doubt his love and devotion. Although not long enough, he was a loving grandfather, "LOL PP Poppa," to his "Squishy Pooty," Amara. Matt was very dedicated to his entire family. He was always a dependable man who believed that family took care of each other and that family did not end at DNA. He carried this mentality throughout his work for the City of McKeesport, 19 years working in power generation, and time with his golf and bowling leagues. He did everything in his power to make his coworkers, teammates, and friends feel like they were truly family. While maintaining his brutal honesty, Matt tried to spread joy and laughter everywhere he went. His jovial personality never faltered. He was outgoing, the king of wit, and the quickest with his snarky comebacks. He was never afraid to make a fool out of himself publicly if it meant he could make somebody's day just a little bit brighter. Matt enjoyed the outdoors immensely, especially going camping and having the greatest time at beaches and lakes. His greatest joy was sharing this love of the outdoors with his family. Additionally, his fondness for motorcycles was second only to his love of family and friends. Matt enjoyed the open road and the feeling of freedom a motorcycle ride gave him. Matt always took such good care of his family, and they always wanted him to know, "It'll be fine!" Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William John Sr. and Marilyn Sovick, and maternal grandparents, Felix Richard and Anna Elizabeth Mayer. Surviving family includes devoted wife, Melissa Sovick; father, William John Sovick Jr. (Andrea); mother, Sandra Marie Sovick; children, Haley Sovick, Michael Goedicke, Matthew Sovick Jr., Matthew Goedicke, and Harley Sovick; brother, William John Sovick III (Maria); grandchild, Amara Sovick; father-in-law, Brian Lascek; mother-in-law, Carol Lascek; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as extended family and countless friends. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Rusiewicz Funeral Home, Lower Burrell. A funeral Mass will take place at noon on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Rusiewicz Funeral Home, followed by a private burial. A celebration of life is also planned for a later date. It was Matt's constant wish that not only his family, but all families, spend quality time together and enjoy each other's company. In lieu of flowers, please help honor Matt by making a point to spend time with your family and those you love, because tomorrow is never promised.
