Matthew Edward Starner, age 67, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Matthew later made Gulfport his home, where he shared more than 30 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Lisa Starner.
Matthew proudly served in the United States Coast Guard, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for his courage and dedication. Following his military service, he built a successful career, retiring from Siemens Building Services and later continuing his work with the Harrison County School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Albert Starner. Matthew is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Lisa Starner; his siblings, Erica Lewis (Ed), Alex Starner (Sue), and Karl Starner; his brother-in-law, Greg Rowell; his nieces, Lacey Jay (Chad), Haley Rowell, and Sumer Steelman (Alan); his nephews, Nicholas Starner, Morgan Starner, Grayson Rowell, Kennon Rowell, and Rory Rowell. He is also remembered with love by many great-nieces and great-nephews, including Kessler Jay, Christi’Auna Rowell, Warren Steelman, and Tristen Steelman.
A man of strong faith, Matthew attended Mosaic Church in Ocean Springs. He was an avid history buff. Known affectionately as “Uncle Matt”, he touched the lives of countless family and friends with his generosity, kindness, and a servant heart.
Matthew will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 11 am.
