Paul W. Starner, 77, of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully at his home on January 31, 2026, following a long illness. Born in Cambridge, MA, on July 30, 1948, he was the son of the late Evert and Dorothy (Sullivan) Starner.

Paul dedicated his professional life to banking, serving as a mortgage officer prior to becoming vice president of the mortgage department at Haverhill Co-Operative bank, where he worked for 20 years. He was an active member of the Haverhill Kiwanis Club. An avid sportsman, he found great joy in the outdoors, particularly fishing and bird hunting. Active in many trap and skeet shooting leagues, he won many awards for his skills and enjoyed competing alongside his son, Richard and his grandson John. Paul was a steadfast friend, a loyal companion, and a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. There was nothing he wouldn't do for those he loved. He had a love for the ocean which drew him to cruising and many years of vacationing at Fortune Rocks in Maine. Paul will be forever missed by those who had the great fortune and honor of loving him.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Richard and William Starner his sister, Linda Sullivan and his first wife of 40 years, Marsha Jayne (Bejian) Starner.

Paul is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carole (Sykes) Starner. He leaves behind his children, daughter Carolee (Starner) Smith and her husband Jeremy of Danville, NH, and son Richard Starner and his wife Jennifer of Haverhill, MA and former daughter- in law- Tina Starner and her husband Steven Leathers. He was the devoted grandfather of Molly, Emma, Liliana, Wyatt, Colby and his wife Megan, John and his wife Ciji, and Abbey (Starner) Bates and her husband Ian, as well as great-grandson Nolan.

He will also be greatly missed by his stepdaughters, Jen Dowling and her husband Chris of Danville, NH, Michelle Clement and her husband George of Salem, NH, Marsha Clements and her husband Eddie of Salem, NH and Julie DiPasquale and her husband Zac of Windham, NH and his step-grandchildren Sarah and her husband Jacob, Katie, Lexie, Claire, Riley, Jack, and Maggie, as well as his great-grandson, James.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday February 12, 2026 from 10 am to Noon at the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home 42 Main St., Salem, NH. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at Noon on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem. My deepest sympathies to you and your family at this difficult time. This is Keith Rogers and Amanda Rogers mother Carol Rogers Burke. I remember many Christmas Eve parties at their home. He was always well liked spent many times over his home in Haverhill at their pool.
