Bruce C. Russell, age 78, of
Salem, NH, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026. Born in 1947 in
New Bedford, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late William Russell and the late Mazelle (Orcutt) Russell.
Bruce lived a life defined by devotion to his family, friends, and the many communities he touched. He shared more than 30 wonderful years in
Andover, MA with his beloved wife, Jane (Broadhead) Russell, before moving together to Salem. Their marriage was one of partnership, love, and unwavering support.
He was the proud and loving father of Ben Russell and his wife Dorsey, and John Russell and his wife Amber. Nothing brought him greater joy than being "Papa" to his grandchildren, Sydney and Charlie. He delighted in attending Sydney's dance and theater performances and could always be found cheering on Charlie at hockey games or spending time with him working on their golf game. Their achievements and passions lit up his life. He also had a close relationship with Sydney's and Charlie's mother, Maureen Maginnis.
Bruce was the cherished brother of Thomas Russell and his wife Cindi, and Nathaniel Russell. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Joanna Sawyer.
Warm, social, and endlessly approachable, Bruce had a gift for connection. He built friendships everywhere he went - on the golf course, at family gatherings, and throughout his travels. He loved the camaraderie of a good round of golf or a spirited tennis match, approaching both games with the same enthusiasm he brought to life.
He was an ardent supporter of his two sons, who both played college baseball, and gave generously of his time, coaching Andover youth sports and encouraging young athletes with the steady guidance he offered to his own children.
A lifelong supporter of New England sports, Bruce cheered faithfully for all the local teams, especially the Celtics and the Patriots. Whether celebrating a championship or dissecting a tough loss, he relished the shared experience of being a fan.
He loved to travel, exploring destinations across the United States and throughout Europe. At home, he could often be found with a book in hand or reading the latest news.
Above all, Bruce was simply a good man - genuine, loyal, generous, and grounded. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the friendships he nurtured, and the many lives he touched with his humor, warmth, and integrity. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
