Matthew Lynn Stoll was born on March 08, 1980, in Stark County, Ohio to Ervin and Amanda (Yoder) Stoll. He passed away on April 24, 2025, while working at his lifetime dream of farming. Death was caused by electrocution when he stepped from the tractor after the sprayer boom made contact with a power line. He must not have seen the line because he was well aware of the dangers of high voltage.
Matt spent the first number of years in Homeworth, Ohio, with his family where he received his formal education at Bethel School. He had a personal experience with the Lord when he was 11 years old and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on January 20, 1991. He moved with his family to Hardinsburg, Indiana, in 1999. He loved the Lord and the church, being a faithful member until his seemingly untimely death, serving in many ways. When he was 20, he moved to Grifton, North Carolina, where he worked for a lawn care company, later going on his own in that line of work.
He met Lisa Schneider at a youth rally in Kidron, Ohio, in July of 1999 and fell in love with her! They were married on July 02, 2000, at St Mary’s, Ontario. We were looking forward to celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this summer. We were richly blessed with five children: Seth, Haleigh, Tanner, Trey, and Ashley. Matt loved his wife and children and had the privilege of seeing all of them give their hearts to the Lord. He also loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a man of deep feeling, and we never questioned his love for us, giving us a stable home for which we are very thankful. He loved singing with his family and friends. He also enjoyed serving on the school board and spending time with the children.
The family moved to Leesburg, Ohio, in July of 2003. Matt started an excavating business which worked well and grew. Then in 2009, we felt the call to the mission and spent nearly 4 years in the Philippines, making many friends with the people there.
After coming back home from the mission, Matt started a concrete business, Crete-Tek, with his nephew Weston. ln time, Weston sold out and Jared Sommers went into partnership with him. Because of his unselfishness and hard work ethics, he made many friends with whom he had meaningful relationships.
Matt missed his father deeply when he passed away on September 19, 2021, making mention of him many times.
There is no doubt in our minds that Dad loved the Lord! A recent special experience is one evening for family devotions, Dad read an account of a man that had a near death experience. In his experience, he saw heaven and the wonderful glories of it. After reading, Dad said, “Wouldn't it be neat if we could go there? If we could all go together!” That night, Ashley, our youngest, was fearful of not being ready for heaven. After talking about it, Matt prayed with her and then she prayed. In the morning, the burden was gone, and she was free and happy.
It pains our hearts to know that Dad won't be there to answer our questions anymore. But we choose to trust in the God that our Dad loved, knowing He loves us too!
