Matthew Summerhill Obituary

Matthew D. Summerhill, 50, of Spring Church, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 17, 1974, in Natrona Heights, he was the son of Donald and Lydia (Wilson) Summerhill of Kiski Township. Matt was a 1992 graduate of Apollo-Ridge High School, and attended University of Pittsburgh Johnstown. He was employed as a railroad foreman for Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge for several years. Matt was a member of the Fort Hand Rifle Club, the Pittsburgh Suburban Rifle League, and the Marconi Club Bocce League. Matt was proud of his heritage, and liked attending the Pittsburgh Irish Festival, as well as the Highland Games at Idlewild. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn, and liked traveling, whether it be getaways with his wife Dana, or family vacations to the beach, the mountains, and anywhere in-between. Matt most loved being with his family. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his father-in-law, William A. Toth. In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by his wife of 12 years, Dana (Toth) Summerhill; children, Natalie (Nino Zalenski) Summerhill, Nicholas Summerhill, Nina Summerhill, and Nathan Summerhill, all of Leechburg, Hailey Summerhill of Spring Church; sister, Jody (Jon) Smoyer of Vandergrift; mother-in-law, Charlene Toth of Kiski Township; brother-in-law, Craig (Mary Beth) Toth of Crescent Township, PA; his nieces and nephews, Ben & Maddie Smoyer, Grace, Carter, and Teddy Toth; and last but not least, his beloved dog, Jack Wilson. Friends will be received at the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until the Celebration Of Life Tribute Service at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Please join the family as they honor Matt's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Hand Rifle Club, 1241 Old State Road, Apollo, PA 15613. Worked with Matt not sure what year ! But what a nice fellow! I think his granddad also worked on RR. Again sorry for loss!

From Matt´s fellow workers at the mill. We send our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. It was a pleasure to work with Matt. But it was more pleasurable to know him. He had a great sense of humor and was all around a great guy. Till we meet again Matt. R.I.P.
