Matthew Tanner Franks Martin was born on Wednesday, March 1, 1995, and passed away early morning, Monday, October 10th, 2022. He is survived by a large family: His mother and her partner, Misty Layman and William Fowler; his father and stepmother, Jason and Eilene Franks; stepfather, Joseph Martin; his siblings Dawson Martin, Roland Fowler, and Hudson, Bryson, and Hadley Franks; his maternal grandparents, Randy and Lauren Layman, along with grandparents Larry and Sue Holliday, Tony and Glenda Fournier, and Bill and Karen Graham; and two great-grandmothers, June Franks, and Kay Mathews. He is also survived by a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tanner leaves behind numerous friends who have testified to his ability to connect with others and foster close relationships. His large group of family and friends are currently living in pain and grief without him, but they will all have treasured memories to keep and will celebrate him in their own ways moving forward.
Tanner was passionate about the things he enjoyed and valued. He was able to connect deeply with others, both friends and family. Tanner loved his whole family deeply, and many testimonies have been shared about his ability to establish genuine, long-lasting friendships. Tanner has been referred to multiple times as "the life of the party", which highlights his ability to lighten others' moods and focus on having fun, another important value for him. He loved interacting with the children in his family, along with his friends' kids, having the keen ability to make children feel seen, respected, and heard.
Tanner valued learning and developing aptitude in his job and had established an impeccable work ethic. His love for his work could be felt through his ability to talk about his job passionately and endlessly to others. Tanner found release through both art and music. He enjoyed an eclectic mix of music and drew inspiration from it daily. Tanner also left behind a collection of his drawings that highlight both his struggles and his joy while he was with us.
Tanner's family would prefer that, in lieu of flowers, you plant a tree in his memory instead.
