With heavy hearts, we share that Matthew “Matt” Christopher Thompson, 54, passed away at his home in Aurora, Colorado, on December 30, 2025.
Born in Denver, Colorado, Matt was a son, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was defined by loyalty, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Thompson, and his beloved mother, Ann Thompson.
Matt was known for his loyalty and the deep care he showed to the people in his life. Family meant everything to him, and few roles reflected that more than the loving care he provided to his mother in her last years. Matt embraced being her caregiver with patience, compassion, and pride, honoring her with his constant presence and devotion.
In his younger years, Matt pursued studies as a medical assistant, earning top marks and demonstrating his intelligence and focus. Though his career path took a different turn, his capability and perseverance were evident to all who knew him.
Matt found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He adored his dog, Chico, who was his loyal companion. A lifelong Denver Broncos fan, Matt cheered faithfully through every season, sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends. His Catholic faith was important to him, and he found peace and comfort in reading the Bible.
Family was everything to Matt. He spoke often with pride and affection about his niece and nephews, celebrating their milestones and accomplishments. He is survived by his brothers, Kenneth Thompson and Michael Thompson, his sister-in-law, Kirsten Thompson (married to Mike); his nephews Christopher Wesson and David Wesson, and niece Krystina Wesson (married to David); his great-nephews, Tyler Wesson and Kaj Wesson; and his great-niece, Kadence Wesson. He also leaves behind his uncle Tony Montoya, many cousins, and dear friends who cherished him deeply.
Matt will be remembered for his loyalty, and the love he gave so freely to those he cared about. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of his dear friend Becky at a later date, where family and close friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and fond memories of a life lived with devotion and love.
