Matthew Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home on Dec. 16, 2025.
Matthew P. Walker, 35, went to be with his Lord on November 28, 2025.
Matthew was born and raised in San Diego County, CA. As a boy, he loved being outside, scrambling over rocks, playing in the swale & climbing up trees. He was an active participant in Royal Rangers and earned his Gold Medal of Achievement. He enjoyed camping activities, mentoring the "young bucks" and Frontiersman Camping Fellowship.
In Middle School, Matthew discovered music & played Tenor Sax. He especially loved Jazz! By High School he added Bass Trombone to his repertoire. As an adult, at the encouragement of a friend, he built & played Bag Pipes!
Matthew enjoyed playing football in High School. He loved the camaraderie and would accomplish physical feats no one thought possible, simply because "Coach told him to."
Matthew served in the Marine Corps for five years, working in Avionics Electronics at MCBH, Kaneohe. He was so disappointed to be stationed in Hawaii! Working in coveralls in that heat & humidity did not suit him in the least. He always wanted to live somewhere colder.
Matthew loved Wyoming: the open spaces, "free air" and friendly small town atmosphere of Laramie. He made so many friends and completely embraced his adopted home town.
Even more than the above, Matthew loved Jesus and His Word. A favorite past-time was discussing & dissecting verses in their ancient Hebrew and Greek! He never passed up an opportunity to debate meanings of Bible verses even down to the slightest minutiae. The Truth set Matthew free! (John 8:32)
Matthew will be tremendously missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Paul & Leslie, and his sister Amy, as well as a large and loving extended family.
Matthew was laid to rest at Green Hill Cemetery, in Laramie, under a large shade tree.
Services will be held at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Laramie, WY on January 17, 2026.
