Matthew Wright Obituary
Matt graduated from Coosa Christian High School in 1989 and joined the United States Navy immediately following graduation at the age of 17. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Iowa and the USS Harry E. Yarnell. Matt was a member of Hokes Bluff First Baptist Church. While in Kansas, he enjoyed attending Kansas State athletic events, spending time at the local American Legion, listening to music and reading books.
A memorial service will be held at Collier Butler Funeral home on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will precede the service from 11:00 am until 12:00 p.m. A burial with military honors will immediately follow the service at Crestwood Cemetery.
Matt is survived by his parents, George and Linda Wright; siblings Janna (Scott) Bonds and Clay (Jennifer) Wright; sons Matthew Drake Wright and Forrest Gabriel Wright; nieces Lila Jane Bonds, Callie Rae Bonds, Jesa Leigh Bonds, Peyton Wright, and nephew Cooper Wright; Tracy Payne, Caitlynn Payne and a host of many other special friends and family members.
Preceding in Matt's death are grandparents John. D. and Ruby Ozell Taylor, Johnny and Mary Ellen Wright; great-grandmother Nettie Wilkes Taylor; aunts Freida Wright and Minerva Wright Ledbetter.
Pallbearers assisting Mr. Wright to his final resting place will include; Dale Atkins, Cass Cole, David Hayes, Lane Ford and Larry Sandlin.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to employees and friends at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka, Kansas and the former Gadsden plant.
